lemon leaves | 1 1/2 cup |
curry leaves / karuveppila | few |
citron leaves | 2 tablespoon |
dry red chilly | 10 |
ajwain / omam | 15 grams |
hing / asafoetida powder / kayam | one generous pinch |
tamaraind / puli | lemon sized ball |
salt | to taste |
1. Wash lemon leaves and curry leaves under clear running water. Pat dry and remove the stem from the leaves.
2. In a mixer, dry grind dry red chilly, ajwain and salt.
3. To this add lemon leaves, curry leaves, tamarind and grind it once more. (Do not add water.)
4. Make small balls.
5. These balls can be preserved in fridge.
6. Veppilla katti is ready.

Sorry for not making myself clear. Actually two types of leaves are used. One is the normal lemon leaf and the other is the leaf of ganapathy naragam (the lemon used as offering for Lord Ganapathy). But it is optional.

Was an authentic dish, my grandma makes this quite often and we usually carry them whenever we go back to home after our vacation..Makes me nostalgic Nandoo.

Even I sued to wonder why this is called veppalai katti.We also call this nartha elai(citron leaves) podi,my favorite one,looks great
awesome recipe , Usually it will be powdered version , first time seeing this as thokoyal version loved it
