Thayir semiya – is a very simple, easy and tasty South Indian dish which can be made in a jiffy. This dish can be served as an alternative to regular thayir sadam / curd rice. This can also be served for any party or gathering.
How to prepare thayir semiya – The method of preparing curd semiya is very simple and is very similar to that of curd rice. The roasted vermicelli is cooked in water, and then mixed with milk, curd and butter. Then the tempered ingredients are added to it. In this recipe I have made use of normal ginger, but you can also make use of mango ginger / manga inji for this. It gives a nice taste and flavor to the dish. Isn’t it easy? Now to the recipe..
|water||1 1/2 cups|
|mustard seeds||1/2 teaspoon|
|urud dal||1/4 teaspoon|
|dry red chilli (broken)||1|
|cumin seeds||1/4 teaspoon|
|ginger||1 small piece (finely chopped)|
|grapes (deseeded and halved)|
water in a bowl. Add roasted semiya into
it along with salt and a tsp of oil.
Stir now and then to avoid sticking to the bottom .
Once cooked, add milk and stir continuously. Remove from flame.
Heat a teaspoon of oil, splutter mustard
seeds. Then add dry red chilli, urud
dal, hing, ginger, green chillies, curry
leaves and sauté for a few seconds. Add
this to the semiya.
