andhra style raw mango chutney - is a tasty side dish for rice made with raw mango. Also called as mamidikaya pesarapappu pachadi

  • raw mango - 1 cup
  • jaggery - ½ teaspoon
  • salt - to taste
  • for roasting
  • moong dal or cheruparippu - ½ cup
  • dry red chilies - 4 - 5
  • cumin seeds or jeerakam - ¾ teaspoon
  • for tempering
  • oil - 1 teaspoon
  • mustard seeds - ¼ teaspoon
  • urad dal - ½ teaspoon
  • curry leaves - few
  • hing - a pinch
  • dry red chili - 1
  1. Peel the skin of the mango and keep it in a plate.
  2. Dry roast moong dal in medium flame till it becomes golden brown color. Transfer it to another plate.
  3. In the same pan add cumin seeds and saute them in low flame for 2 - 3 minutes. Transfer them to a plate along with roasted moong dal.
  4. Add dry red chilies and roast it for a minute. Transfer it to the plate along with other roasted ingredients. Allow it to cool.
  5. Transfer the roasted ingredients to a mixer jar and grind it to a coarse powder without adding water.
  6. Add the chopped mango pieces, jaggery, salt and grind it to a smooth paste by adding very little water.
  7. Transfer it to a serving bowl.
  8. Heat 1 teaspoon of oil in a pan. When the oil is hot enough, splutter mustard seeds. Add dry red chili, curry leaves, and saute for a few seconds. Add hing, mix well and then turn off the flame. Pour the tempering over the chutney.
  9. Serve mamidikaya pesarapappu pachadi with rice.
