Ingredients
  • oil - 2 - 3 tablespoons
  • dry red chili - 1
  • onion - 1, finely chopped (optional)
  • cumin seeds or jeera - ½ teaspoon
  • hing or asafetida powder - a pinch
  • aloo or potato - 5, boiled
  • green chili - 2, finely chopped
  • ginger paste - 1 teaspoon
  • turmeric powder - ¼ teaspoon
  • red chili powder - ½ teaspoon
  • coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • garam masala - ¼ teaspoon
  • lemon juice - 2 tablespoons
  • coriander leaves - 4 teaspoons, finely chopped
  • salt - to taste
Method
  1. Pressure cook potatoes for 3 to 4 whistles. Peel off the skin, mash them and keep aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pan.
  3. Reduce the flame to low.
  4. Add cumin seeds, dry red chili, ginger paste, coriander powder, asafetida powder, and saute for a second.
  5. Add onion and saute till they turn translucent.
  6. Add the mashed potato, red chili powder, garam masala, salt, coriander leaves and mix well.
  7. Add lemon juice mix well, and cook for 2 to 3 minutes.
  8. The masala should get coated well on the potato pieces. Turn off the flame.
  9. aloo ka bharta is ready.
