  • oil - 2 tablespoons
  • mustard seeds - ¼ teaspoon
  • cumin seeds - ¼ teaspoon
  • onion - 1, finely chopped
  • ginger garlic paste - ¼ teaspoon
  • turmeric powder - ¼ teaspoon
  • red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
  • coriander powder - ½ teaspoon
  • cumin powder - ¼ teaspoon
  • garam masala - ¼ teaspoon
  • cauliflower - 1, small
  • green peas or matar - ½ cup
  • salt - to taste
  • coriander leaves - few, finely chopped
  • pepper powder - ¼ teaspoon (optional)
  1. Cut cauliflower into medium-sized florets.  Bring water to a boil in a pan.  When the water starts boiling, add ¼ teaspoon of turmeric powder, cauliflower pieces.  Cover and cook for 2 minutes.  Strain the excess water, keep aside.
  2. If you are using fresh peas, cook them separately with a little salt and keep aside.  I used frozen peas, so I add it directly.
  3. Heat oil in a pan.  When the oil is hot enough, splutter mustard seeds.  Add cumin seeds and let it sizzle.
  4. Add onion, ginger garlic paste and saute well till onion turns translucent.
  5. Add red chili powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala, and mix well.
  6. Add cauliflower pieces, frozen peas, and saute well.
  7. Sprinkle a little water, cover and cook on a low flame for a few minutes.
  8. Open the lid, mix well.  Garnish with coriander leaves.
  9. gobi matar dry recipe is ready.  Serve with steamed rice or with chapati and phulkas.
