Ingredients
  • mint leaves - ¾ cup
  • cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon, roasted
  • whole black pepper - ½ teaspoon
  • chaat masala powder - ½ teaspoon
  • hing or asafoetida powder - a pinch
  • lemon juice - 2 medium lemons
  • sugar - 1 teaspoon, optional
  • boondi - 1 tablespoon
  • black salt or rock salt - to taste
Method
  1. Rinse mint leaves.
  2. Add mint leaves, fennel seeds, cumin seeds, whole black pepper, hing and salt to a blender. Add ½ to ¾ cup of water and blend it well.
  3. Strain it through a strainer.
  4. Add 3 to 4 cups of chilled water to the strained mixture and mix well. Add lemon juice also and mix well. You can refrigerate this mixture until use.
  5. Before serving, add boondi, and a pinch of chaat masala.
  6. jal jeera is ready.
